Ask Maps guide
Ask Maps by trade:what your customers really ask
A plumber and a vet get very different questions. Here is what people type into Google Maps for eight trades, the profile fields that let Gemini answer truthfully, and each trade’s trap.

Same feature, different questions.Your trade decides what gets asked.
If you are new to Ask Maps, read our Ask Maps guide first: it covers what the feature is, where it is available, country by country, and the seven fixes that apply to every business. This page assumes that and goes trade by trade.
The rule underneath is simple. Gemini can only repeat what Google can read about you: your profile, your reviews and your website. A question about rabbits, hybrid batteries or a fixed-fee consultation gets an answer only from businesses that wrote those words down somewhere.
Each section gives real-world questions, the fields that answer them, and the trap we see most. First, see where you rank across your city in about a minute.
Eight trades, eight sets of questions.Find yours.
The questions are written the way people type them in London. The fields are real Google Business Profile fields; where one depends on your category, we say so.

Dentists
What people ask
- Emergency dentist near Camden open Sunday that takes walk-ins
- Dentist in Islington doing Invisalign with evening appointments
- NHS dentist taking new patients near Finsbury Park
- Dentist good with nervous patients who offers sedation
What lets Gemini answer: List each treatment as its own service, with a short description and a starting price: emergency appointment, Invisalign, sedation for anxious patients. Say in the description whether you take NHS or private patients and whether new patients are accepted. Set exact evening hours and special hours for bank holidays. If your category shows them, tick the wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking attributes, only if you meet Google’s criteria.
The trap: “Emergency dentist” in the description when emergencies are only seen on weekdays. Gemini repeats it to someone at ten on a Sunday night. Write the real limit: “emergency appointments, Monday to Friday”.

Auto repair
What people ask
- Garage near Hackney that can do a hybrid battery check this week
- MOT and service while I wait on a Saturday
- Mechanic who works on older Land Rovers
- Clutch replacement price for a 2015 Golf near Walthamstow
What lets Gemini answer: Services decide this trade: MOT, full service, hybrid battery health check, clutch replacement, each with a “from” price. Name the makes and fuel types you have the kit for, in the description and on your website. If customers can wait on site, say so; if your category offers a Wi-Fi attribute, set it.
The trap: “All makes and models.” It is true of almost every garage, so it answers nothing. The owner of a 2009 Defender wants to read “Land Rover specialist, including older models”, and so does Gemini.

Hair and beauty salons
What people ask
- Balayage specialist in Shoreditch with a slot Friday after 6
- Salon in Brixton that knows how to cut curly hair
- Nail bar near Oxford Circus that takes walk-ins
- Barber open Sunday morning near Peckham
What lets Gemini answer: Every service with a price or starting price and one line on what is included: balayage, curly cut, gel manicure, skin fade. Name your specialities in the description, curly hair or colour correction, and back them with recent photos of real work. Add your booking page as the “Book an appointment” link and mark it as preferred.
The trap: “Price on request” on every service, and a booking button that opens the home page. Gemini cannot say what balayage costs or whether Friday still has a slot, so it names a salon whose profile can.

Vets
What people ask
- Vet near Clapham that sees rabbits and is open late
- Emergency vet for a dog that ate chocolate, Sunday night
- Exotic vet for a bearded dragon in south London
- Vet who does home visits for an elderly cat
What lets Gemini answer: Say which animals you treat, in the services and the description: dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, birds. Add services by need, vaccinations, dental work, home visits. If you also visit homes, set the profile up as a hybrid: show the address and add the areas you visit. Out of hours, state who covers: you, or a named partner clinic.
The trap: “Small animal practice” and nothing else. To you that includes rabbits; to Gemini it says nothing about rabbits. The other trap is implying round-the-clock care when night calls go to another clinic.

Law firms
What people ask
- Solicitor in Croydon for a tenancy deposit dispute
- Employment lawyer with a fixed-fee first consultation
- Family lawyer near Ealing who speaks Polish
- Immigration solicitor with Saturday appointments
What lets Gemini answer: Practice areas belong in services, one per type of matter: deposit disputes, unfair dismissal, divorce, spouse visas, each with a short description and a fixed fee where you have one. Languages your lawyers speak go in the description. Google lets an individual practitioner have a profile titled with their name only, separate from the firm’s, but not one profile per specialisation.
The trap: Using categories as a list of practice areas. Google’s guidelines say to use as few categories as possible and describe the business as a whole, not as keywords. Ten clear services say more than ten categories.

HVAC and plumbing
What people ask
- Plumber who can fix a leaking combi boiler tonight in Lewisham
- Gas Safe engineer for a boiler service this week
- Heat pump installer that covers Bromley
- Emergency plumber for a burst pipe on a Sunday
What lets Gemini answer: Google suggests services for plumbers, such as installing a tap or repairing a toilet; take every true one and add your own: boiler repair, heat pump installation, burst pipe callout. Set your service area by town or postcode: up to 20 areas, no radius, within about two hours’ drive. Put registrations you really hold, such as Gas Safe, in the description.
The trap: Service area and hours that contradict the van. A home address on show for a business that only visits, or “24/7” in the description while the hours say 8 to 6. If you only travel to customers, hide the address; if you answer at night, set the hours to match.

Med spas and aesthetic clinics
What people ask
- Lip filler near Chelsea done by a nurse prescriber
- Laser hair removal that is suitable for dark skin in Kensington
- Clinic that can dissolve filler, consultation this Saturday
- Microneedling with evening appointments near Fulham
What lets Gemini answer: One service per treatment, saying who performs it and whether a consultation comes first: lip filler, filler dissolving, laser hair removal, microneedling. Name the practitioner’s qualification in the description, and which skin types your laser suits, if true. Add starting prices and your booking link.
The trap: Promising medical outcomes. “Permanent results” or “no side effects” in a service description can be repeated to a patient as if it were Google’s own advice. Describe the treatment, not the result, and never confirm a treatment in a review reply.

Physiotherapists and chiropractors
What people ask
- Sports physio for ACL rehab after surgery near Wimbledon
- Physio who does home visits after a hip replacement
- Chiropractor open before 8 near Bank
- Women’s health physio for pelvic floor problems
What lets Gemini answer: Name services by the problem and stage, not the method: ACL rehabilitation, post-operative hip rehab, pelvic floor physiotherapy, lower back pain assessment. If you visit patients at home, add the areas you cover. Say in the description which private health insurers you work with, if any. Each practitioner can have a profile under their own name.
The trap: Writing methods and cures. “Manual therapy” answers no patient’s question, and “we fix sciatica” is a promise Gemini may repeat. Describe what you assess and treat, and leave the outcome out.

Where each answer lives on your profile. The same six places, every trade.
Every trade above comes back to the same fields. Fill them in this order.
- Services: one entry per thing you do, with a price and description where you can. No prices or phone numbers in the name.
- Attributes: yes or no facts under Edit profile, then More, such as wheelchair-accessible entrance. Some exist only for certain categories or countries.
- Hours: regular hours for a normal week, special hours for holidays and short closures, and “more hours” for services with their own times.
- Links: a “Book an appointment” link to the real booking page, set as preferred if you have several.
- Service area: towns or postcodes you travel to, up to 20, if you visit customers.
- Reviews and replies: what customers say in their own words, and your reply naming the service naturally.
What Rank Pilot does here. And what it does not do yet.
Rank Pilot does not track Ask Maps answers yet. It is coming, with no date, and we will not invent one.
What it does today: it rebuilds your profile, services, hours and attributes included, and keeps it current. It drafts a reply to every new review in your voice; you save it, and with Autopilot on it goes out two hours later. It checks your rank every week from a 25-point grid across your city, and every month it checks whether ChatGPT and Gemini recommend you.

Straight answers
Ask Maps by trade, answered. What owners in each trade ask us.
Does Ask Maps work the same for every trade?
The feature is the same; the questions are not. Urgent trades get questions with a time in them, clinics get questions about who does the work, garages get questions about one car. Fill in the fields your customers’ questions point at.
Which attributes matter most for my trade?
The ones that answer a question your customers ask, and only the true ones. Google shows different attributes by category and country, so open Edit profile, then More, and go through every one it offers you.
Can medical and legal businesses be named in Ask Maps?
The Google help pages we read do not set them apart. What matters more for them is care: say what is done and by whom, give fixed fees where you have them, and never promise an outcome.
Should I write my services the way customers ask?
Name each service in the words a customer uses, “burst pipe callout” rather than “water ingress solutions”. Keep the business name as it is in real life, and never put prices or phone numbers into a service name.
Does this help in ChatGPT too?
The same plain facts on your profile and website are what any assistant can quote. Nobody outside those companies knows their rules, so Rank Pilot checks every month whether ChatGPT and Gemini actually name you.
